The lunar new year series of collections brought into being by several Fashion companies e.g. Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton & Christian Louboutin has also reached the creative vision of the famed fashion brand Valentino. In the same vein they brought in a new lunar inspired collection making its debut at Paris Fashion week. The collection is primarily streetwear oriented featuring graphics of astronauts, stars and its newly released campaign “VLTN” featured on nylon belts, cotton shirts as well as sneakers. Speaking of which, the new collection also features Valentino’s signature bright camouflage on several casual jackets, backpacks, baseball caps and yes, sneakers.
Given the nature of this collection is primarily streetwear oriented, one can only conclude (as was confirmed by an anonymous source within the brand) that Valentino is making a transition into streetwear rebranding itself, moving away from the famed Italian suits that put the brand on the map. One can only wonder what this would mean for the formal fashion world, given that one of its most famous brands is now following the path of Christian Louboutin, Amiri and Balenciaga towards the prioritization of streetwear in modern fashion. Since this is such a radical move by Valentino, it still remains a mystery whether or not the likes of Tom Ford, Georgio Armani, and Versace will also make that transition.
