Based on the allegations of a toxic work environment created at set of the ‘Ellen’ show that came up this past summer, it makes sense that the ratings of the show, have exponentially declined. Despite her taking responsibility on the show’s return episode, and the ratings of that particular episode being the most watched episode since 2016, over the past week ratings for the show are continuing to decline, with a 38% drop of regular viewers over the past week.
Ellen, in response to the allegations made an apology on her opening monologue:
“I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected, I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”
Ellen DeGeneres and her set team have been committing themselves to improving the work environment. They have gotten rid of several producers that had their hands in promoting that environment, reported to harbor racism & sexism and other negative traits. She spoke on her own persona in her monologue as well saying:
“Being known as the ‘be-kind lady’ is a tricky position to be in. The truth is I am that person you see on TV. I am also a lot of other things. Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious, I get frustrated, I get impatient. And I am working on all of that. I’m especially working on the impatience thing. And it’s not going well, because it’s not happening fast enough,”
