We all are currently aware of the most unexpected guest narration from Morgan Freeman on Savage Mode II from 21 Savage and Metro Boomin. In an article by GQ Freeman stated that he was looking for an opportunity to move away from the “Nice Guy” persona that we all know him as. He was quoted in the GQ interview as saying:
“What happens is you sort of get locked into a position. Henry Fonda was in it, Spencer Tracy was in it, James Stewart was in it, even though he played a couple of bad guys. You don’t really don’t want to be cast into a mold, but after a few years, it’s bound to happen. Every [offer] that’s outside of what you consider [your] mold is fun to do. I got to jump at it.”
The narration of Savage Mode II, according to Freeman, spoke to him in a way that called back to his role in The Shawshank Redemption. He also stated his belief that the narration, that being on the distinction between Snitches and Rats, has real wisdom to it.
“this is stuff they [the younger generation] need to be aware of. So it’s a good thing to do.”
That is to say that the message behind it spoke to his values and the way he thinks.
“I think this is the way I think. It’s basically saying don’t suffer fools and when you want something go for that,”
The narration was recorded on Freeman’s iPhone without any improvisation.
