For the avid viewers of the hit HBO series Game Of Thrones, it came as a great shock to see the sad and heroic death of the gentle giant Hodor. That in addition to the overwhelming back-story that came alongside that fate at the hands of the Wight Walkers. Though it may come as a relief to many of us that according to a statement from George R.R. Martin that Hodor will have a much different fate in his next few books.
The new fate of Hodor is a part of a book on the series called “Fire Can Not Kill A Dragon” from James Hibberd. Martin revealed his plans for the new fate of Hodor to The Wrap:
“They did it very physical — ‘hold the door’ with Hodor’s strength. In the book, Hodor has stolen one of the old swords from the crypt. Bran has been warging into Hodor and practicing with his body, because Bran had been trained in swordplay. So telling Hodor to ‘hold the door’ is more like ‘hold this pass’ — defend it when enemies are coming — and Hodor is fighting and killing them. A little different, but same idea.”
It comes as a welcome change from the author himself to mention that the way the screen adaptation handled the story poorly in comparison to how the author would have written it. Though this wouldn’t be the first time such things had occurred, with other examples being Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2, Paper Towns and The Golden Compass (Based on the book: “His Dark Materials”).
