It’s no secret that Tennis star Rafael Nadal has had a nearly decade long relationship with the Swiss watchmakers at Richard Mille. At his most recent appearance at the French Open, the spaniard was spotted wearing a Richard Mille watch priced at $1,050,000.
The price range on a watch like this is not unheard of due to the intricacies of manufacturing a watch and setting the dials and cogs in the right place (Roger DuBuis recently unveiled a luxury car themed watch selling for close to $2,000,000 last year). As a brand ambassador he is required to wear the watch during any and all events that he is at the center of. At this particular event he was seen sporting an RM 27-04 of which only 50 were made.
The Richard Mille watch is designed to float in water, has a specially designed skeletonized movement, which is clearly visible from both sides and weighs only 30 grams (including the strap). The watch is also designed to handle up to 12,000 shocks of G-force. Given the rarity and intricacy of this watch, it will undoubtedly sell out quickly.
For perspective on the aesthetic, here is the watch worn by Nadal at a previous tournament, the RM 27-02:
