Amazon, according to an article from Popular Science, by next year the vans we see used by Amazon drivers delivering packages will have gone completely electric with its delivery trucks from Rivian. This is some of the more exciting news received from Amazon since the announcement of their slowly developing Drone program. The company mentioned before: Rivian, uses a technology which they call the “Skateboard” for its vehicles. The Skateboard involves a flat, wheeled surface containing the vehicle batteries alongside a motor and the drivetrain.
Though it’s not fully known about what other in-depth features the Rivian/Amazon vehicles will have with regard to range and performance, it is known that earlier this year, Amazon made a $2.5 Billion investment into Rivian.
Rivian itself is only 11 years old, but only began production on vehicles 2 years ago. The partnership between Rivian and Amazon, in addition to the currently in design electric delivery truck is set to deliver 2 other types of electric vehicles.
Amazon has the objective to have 10,000 new vehicles on the streets by 2022 and 100,000 by 2030.
