The recently released Robert DeNiro film “War With Grandpa” made a killing at the box office over the weekend with over $2.6 million bade on Friday and Saturday and another $988,000 made on Sunday. This movie premiere gained that many viewers in spite of the 16% close of movie theaters, including those of New York and California.
Surprisingly enough in California, cinema giant Regal Cinemas only has 7 of it’s 536 operating theaters open. Laurent Ouaknine, president of Distribution at 101 Studios, which produced War With Grandpa, had this to say about the turnout for the film:
“Really pleased that 101 Studios was able to offer audiences a comedy that is bringing the whole family back to theaters,”
War With Grandpa surprisingly also beat Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” for the top spot in the domestic box office this weekend by half a million dollars, having made only $2.1 million this weekend.
