The 1988 classic comedy film Coming to America is getting its long awaited sequel on Amazon Prime this December!
Coming 2 America, will arrive on the site on December 18th and is currently in the process of being bought by Amazon from Paramount Pictures, according to Variety.
There is also a possibility of a tie in with McDonalds & Crown Royal.
According to Variety, one of the reasons why Paramount chose to sell the movie to Amazon, was impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and its effect on movie theaters. The sale is estimated to be worth roughly $125 million.
Last December, director of Coming 2 America, Craig Brewer told Entertainment Weekly that they were fully aware of the awesome power that comes alongside a return to a beloved fan classic, as old as it may be. This is especially evident in the fact that Brewer worked on the movie “Dolemite Is My Name” alongside Eddie Murphy. He had this to say:
“There’s this moment that I always go back to: when we were screening Dolemite Is My Name, I worked on Empire a little bit, so I had some of the writers come and take a look at the movie, They were all in the back row of the screening room, and Eddie and Arsenio walked in and sat down in the second row, just like old friends do. And I could see everybody in the back’s eyes getting big and pointing down to both of them.”
