The return of Dexter Morgan to Showtime comes in 2021 with an upcoming 10 episode limited series. The series will also mark the return of Michael C. Hall who is set to reprise his role. The limited series will also see the return of Clyde Phillips, who was the executive producer for seasons 1-4 of Dexter.
The news of a reboot to the Showtime series based on the books by Jeff Lindsay, dates all the way back to a statement from David Nevins in 2014. Nevins, who was the president of Showtime at the time, said this:
“If I were to do something, I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I want it to feel different – not just a continuation of the old show.”
The announcement comes as a breath of fresh air for fans that were overwhelmingly disappointed by the Season 8 Finale. Michael C. Hall also expressed his disappointment with the show’s ending. The current president of Showtime, Gary Levine had this to say:
“We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”
