A few weeks after the announcement of the Dexter Limited Series coming to Showtime, the returning showrunner, Clyde Phillips made the statement that the limited series will make amends for the much despised Season 8 finale.
Phillips stated to The Hollywood Reporter that the limited series wouldn’t replace the ending, rather to provide a “second ending”, taking place after Season 8 with the intentions of making things right with fans.
Uproxx reported Phillips as saying:
“This isn’t Dexter season nine… This was an opportunity to write a second finale for the show. We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream. What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years. 10 years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. In so far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale for our show, and Showtime was very gracious about that.”
The limited Dexter series will begin production in early 2021 and will be released in Fall of 2021.
