Jake Gyllenhaal and Dune director Denis Villenueve have joined forces again since their collaborations on “Enemy” and “Prisoners” for an upcoming limited series on HBO based on a Norwegian novel.
The Series will be called “The Son”, bearing the same name as the novel from Jo Nesbø. The story is “a tale of vengeance set amid Oslo’s brutal hierarchy of corruption.” following Sonny Lofthus, a “strangely charismatic and complacent young man” who has spent half his life in prison for the crimes of others by his late 20’s. Lofthus’ father commits suicide ad to avoid being found out as a corrupt policeman he develops a heroine addiction. In a twist of fate, he discovers a secret his father had and plans a prison break to hunt down the people who destroyed his life.
The author himself, Jo Nesbø eilbe joining in as an executive producer for the series, along with Lenore Zion who worked on shows such as Channel Zero, Ray Donovan and Billions. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan of Westworld also will be joining the cast.
The Son, currently has no set release date.
