Jony Ive, a year following his departure from Apple has signed to for a partnership with Airbnb. The news comes from Airbnb’s website, with CEO Brian Chesky geeking out about the partnership.
Even though no specific details have released, Chesky as well as Ive and his partners from LoveFrom are developing a “special collaboration” alongside Airbnb designing the “next generation of Airbnb products and services.” Ive touched on his years long friendship that he had with Chesky:
“We share the same belief in the value and importance of creativity and design,” said Chesky. “We each believe not only in making objects and interfaces, but in crafting services and experiences. We’ve seen how design can facilitate trust and enable more human connection, something people are desperate for during an unprecedented time of loneliness and disconnection.”
Airbnb’s internal design team will also be aided in development by Ive with the chief of design, Alex Schleifer reported to be transitioning into a part-time role alongside reports detailing that 3 designers have left the company altogether.
“I hope all of this speaks to the seriousness of our design-driven approach,” Chesky finished with. “We believe that working together will be an important and powerful creative partnership. We’re both excited about the ideas we already have, as well as ideas that are currently beyond our imagination.”
