A rare Rolex Submariner has just been auctioned off to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars by Gardiner Houlgate. This particular Submariner watch was bought 56 years ago by a coal miner from Nottinghamshire England and it possessed a rare 3-6-9 explorer dial.
The watch was bought by its owner for 70 GBP (or 90 USD) and has been handed down to his daughter and son-in-law following his death in 1995. The sale also included many photos of the original owner wearing the watch in addition to it’s complete Watches of Switzerland accouterments & paperwork.
The owner was chosen in WWII, as a Bevin Boy to increase the rate of coal production and as a gift to himself for his years of hard work and to celebrate his 40th birthday he saw it best to get the 5512 Rolex Submariner.
