An aspiring rapper from Fort Worth, Texas has been arrested for shooting someone. Big deal, we hear that all the time…but did I mention the rapper is 12 and shot a 1-year old? Nope…did you see that one coming? Because I didn’t.
According to the Dallas Observer, in spite of the fact that the 1 year old survived, that didn’t stop the 12 year old rapper, Lil Rodney, from getting sentenced to 7 years in a Juvenile Detention Facility in September. Usually, it would be normal for a court to provide clemency to a young suspect. However, in this case, during the virtual trial carried out via Zoom call, Alex Kim, the Judge for the case, representative of the 323 District Court in Fort Worth was not sympathetic to 12 year old Lil Rodney.
It was stated by Judge Kim that he has consistently lied during proceedings in addition to violating probation via he committing of other crimes such as Arson and cutting off his ankle monitor. The Judge had this to say during the zoom call:
“Rodney, I’m really tired of you lying to me. Every time you come in here, you cry. You know that, right?” he said “Every single time, you beg me for one more chance. You swear to God, ‘On my momma’s name, I’m not gonna cut off the monitor, I’m not gonna run off.’ Every single time.”
Lil Rodney has also, via social media bragged about his probation terms, posting a video of him smoking weed with the statement “Fuck Judge Kim” on his Instagram. The post has since been deleted.
Kim responded by saying: “You know, once you put something on the internet, it doesn’t come down”. It was reported that Lil Rodney’s mother had him when she was 16 and following the events of her arrests when Rodney was a toddler, coupled with his father leaving, left Lil Rodney in the custody of his Grandfather.
