Collectible Pokémon cards are seeing a greater demand this year and celebrities such as Logic are tossing up to $226,000 on Pokémon merch.
Alongside any business that becomes profitable, there is always some profiteer seeking to get rich off a counterfeit version of rare items. A newly live-streamed episode of Dumb Money, the show’s host Chris Camillo paid up to $375,000 (from cash in a briefcase) for a never-been-opened box of first-edition Pokémon cards. The purchase was facilitated by Logan Paul’s Pokémon card supplier/advisor, Jake Greenbaum also called “JBTheCryptoKing”.
The mistake made was that the cards were neither graded nor supplied by PSA/BGS. To Camillo’s chagrin, upon unboxing the cards, he found out that the cards a) were mismatched, b) not all first-editions & c) had some that had even been opened. The intention was that following the unboxing & verification of the cards, the 36 cards would be stored for a year, opened again & auctioned off in Las Vegas with all proceeds being given to charity.
