Famed James Bond actor Sean Connery is now dead. Connery was known for originating the James Bond character when taking on the role for 1962’s Dr. No. He continued to play the role in 5 other films, most notably, Thunderball, Goldfinger & Diamonds Are Forever, before handing the reigns to George Lazenby and later on the now deceased Roger Moore.
Connery was found dead by his family at his home in the Bahamas. Connery was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1930 to a working-class family. In the 1950’s, he gained an interest in acting following his experiences working backstage at a theater. In 1957, he landed his first role in a film called “No Road Back”. Initially he was uncertain about playing the now infamous role based on the Ian Fleming book series, though nowadays we can’t imagine the Bond Films starting with anyone else.
As much as Bond Fans love to talk about who the best actor to play the role was, whether it was Connery, Craig, Moore or Dalton, it doesn’t change the fact that Bond without Connery is no Bond at all. Connery after leaving the role went on to star in films led by the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Gus Van Sant & Steven Speilberg. He was also the recipient of a Academy Award in 1987’s The Untouchables for Best Supporting Actor. He was later knighted for his support of Scottish independence in 2000 & retired in 2003 following the box office failure of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
