Singer and former American Idol finalist, Niki McKibbin is dead at 42.
According to a TMZ via a source close to the McKibbin family that her death was the result of a brain aneurysm. As the result of a prior incident involving the aneurysm she was put on life support. On Sunday at 3 a.m. she was taken off support and pronounced dead by physicians. Her organs were subsequently harvested.
The singer was most known for her appearance on the first season of American Idol in 2002. She stood out because of her classic rock style of performance. Hr most famous song she performed on the show was a cover of “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles. On the show she also performed covers by Alanis Morissette, Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks and Melissa Etheridge.
McKibbin was able to finish in 3rd place behind Justin Guarini and of course Kelly Clarkson. Her son, now 15, named Tristan Langley she had with her husband, Craig Sadler, also auditioned for the show in 2014. He made it to Hollywood, but didn’t get as far as his mother. McKibbon also appeared on Battle of the Network Reality Stars, Celebrity Rehab, Sober House and Fear Factor.
American Idol released this statement to TMZ: “Nikki McKibbin was an incredible talent and we are deeply saddened by the news of her passing. She was part of our American Idol family and will be truly missed,” They said. “Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”
