As of this morning, the popular social media site TikTok has announced that it signed a formal licensing agreement with Sony Music Entertainment. This allows th creators on TikTok to keep using songs in their videos that are under Sony’s vast song catalogue.
TikTok, who recently eluded another attempt from the Donald Trump administration to make interactions on the app illegal, is also partnering with thE musicians at Sony in order to promote new releases. Specific details of the licensing agreement were not given, though the short-form video app advised that the agreement will offer its active creator community greater availability to sound clips from Sony Music’s vast array of current hits, classics & new releases with more to come.
They are also set to be working on developing “greater levels of TikTok user personalisation and creativity” with a goal to “drive new and forward-looking opportunities for fan engagement with SME’s artists and music.”
