According to Variety, the YouTube video “Baby Shark Dance” has become the most-viewed video of all time with more than 7.047 billion views on YouTube. This means that the video has effectively taken the place of the music video for “Despacito”. The Despacito music video became most watched video back in August of 2017 and kept the crown until only recently. In the case of “Baby Shark” was first uploaded in 2015 and took 3 years to gain any traction in the U.S.
Variety made note of Pinkfong, which is the label behind the “Baby Shark Dance” song also ironically dropped a version of the song that features Luis Fonsi who collaborated with Daddy Yankee for Despacito. The Luis Fonsi Baby shark song has already gained more than 106 million views.
The popularity of the annoying, infectiously catchy song has led to a whole new line of games, toys, books and much more. Back in June, kids TV programming studio Nickelodeon made the announcement of an animated “Baby Shark” series titled: “Baby Shark’s Big Show” that is in the process of being made.
Following Despacito in 2nd place the other top 5 are (3) “The Shape Of You” music video from Ed Sheeran with 5 billion views, (4) The “See You Again” collab music video from Charlie Puth & Wiz Khalifa with 4.8 billion views & (5) “Masha and The Bear – Recipe for disaster” with 4.36 billion views.
