The highly anticipated PlayStation 5 is set-to-be released next week, but it was posted on PlayStation’s official blog that the launch will only take place online. According to Sid Shuman, the writer of the post, all launch-day sales “will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.” That being said, the PS5 console won’t be available at any physical retailer i.e. Walmart, Target, Gamestop, Best Buy, etc. The decision was made to keep customers & retail staff safe in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shuman had this to say: “Please don’t plan on campaign out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase,” he wrote. “Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.” However those who have already filled out an online pre-order will be able to pick up their console at the retailer of their choice provided thy follow the COVID-19 safety protocols.
Update: All PS5 console sales on launch day, November 12 or November 19 depending on your region, will be online-only. No units will be available in-store for purchase.
