With comedian Dave Chappelle set to appear on Saturday Night Live this week, SNL’s longest running cast member, Kenan Thompson gave insight into working with one of his heroes in an interview with Jimmy Fallon. This appearance will mark Chappelle’s 6th hosting appearance on SNL, with his most recent appearance on the show prior was the Saturday following the 2016 election. Thompson noted in the interview that when Chappelle gave him a compliment he was almost brought to tears.
“I know the show on Saturday is gonna be powerful,” acknowledging Chappelle’s resurgence over the past 4 years. “He complimented us yesterday. He made an insane speech, you know, before the table read. Did the same thing years ago. The guy is such a prolific speaker, and he speaks from the heart, and a brilliant mind. And it’s such a pleasure to be around.” Thompson continued with: “Yesterday [he] told me I was good at my job, and I almost cried, you know what I’m saying?”
