A box of rare Pokémon cards, as per a pre-auction at Heritage Auctions, will currently close its bidding for $300,000 USD. This is following another Pokémon box set which was selling for $198,000 USD.
The item sold was a First Edition Base Pokémon Base Set Sealed Booster Box from Wizards of the Coast in 1999. The original shrinkwrap seals the box shut and serves as, according to Heritage Auctions the “pinnacle of Pokémon box collecting,”. The box contains 396 cards, that being within 36 total booster packs.
It was added by the auction house that “These box sets have become very scarce, due to their low print run, and very few still remain in the sealed state. Since the cards haven’t been handled, they are likely all in GEM MINT condition.” The authenticity of the cards has yet to be verified by a third party professional grader.
The final auction for the box will be on Nov. 19th at the Heritage Auction’s website.
