The record for most expensive racing pigeon auctioned in the world, has just been broken by a Belgian racing pigeon. Previously, the record was owned by a 4-year-old male racing pigeon, considered the “Lewis Hamilton” of racing pigeons. The previous record holder was sold at auction for €1.25 million GBP, equivalent of $1.49 million USD.
The new record holder is a 2-year old female called New Kim who had a starting price at auction of €200 EUR on PIPA. The price exploded following 2 Chinese bidders entering a bid war that brought the price up to $1.9 million USD. Usually, female racing pigeons tend to be sold for less than their male counterparts given they provide fewer offspring. Belgium, given its 20,000+ pigeon breeders can more than likely break its own record in the future.
