For those that haven’t heard of The Last of Us, the game takes place decades following the end of civilization. The story follows Joel, who is hired to transport a girl named Ellie through the unforgiving zombie infested world. Even though the quarantine zone was difficult enough to escape, they discover the outside world is much worse.
The executive producers lined up by HBO include The Last Of Us’ Neil Druckman, Chernobyl’s Carolyn Strauss and Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells. Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Vice President of Programming stated in a press release that “Craig and Neil are visionaries in a league of their own,” Orsi said. “With them at the helm alongside the incomparable Carolyn Strauss, this series is sure to resonate with both die-hard fans of The Last of Us games and newcomers to this genre-defining saga. We’re delighted to partner with Naughty Dog, Word Games, Sony and PlayStation to adapt this epic, powerfully immersive story.”
The production will be done as a partnership between PlayStation Productions, Naughty Dog, Sony Pictures Television and Word Games. Currently no release date has been revealed, though it will be airing on HBO and HBO Max.
