According to sources, a contestant on the popular obstacle course-based gameshow Wipeout, has died following the completion of the course.
The news received confirmation via law enforcement and sources close to the show. According to Sarah Ardalani, the spokeswoman for the LA County coroner, the still unnamed man had been declared dead at a Santa Clarita hospital in California. Neither his identity, nor cause of the man’s death have been released as the family is still being notified. The man was reportedly in his 30’s.
The man asked for medical attention following his finishing of the obstacle course and was assisted by medical staff on-site and was later taken to the hospital by paramedics.
The show Wipeout has originally seen a run on the network ABC from 2008 – 2014 and is currently being rebooted via TBS and the Endemol Shine North America production company. The shows hosts are set to be Nicole Byer and John Cena though no formal premiere date has been announced. On Thursday & Friday, production was halted following the incident with plans to keep it halted through next week. Before returning to the competition, contestants will be subject to medical exams.
TBS released a statement saying: “We are devastated to have learned of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family,” this statement was followed up by Endemol Shine North America saying: “We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
