A new “Fleets” feature has been released by Twitter to compete with Snapchat that allows Twitter users to post tweets that will disappear automatically following a 24-hour period. The tool was first revealed earlier in the week and follows similar features released via Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and WhatsApp in recent years.
In a recent blog post from Twitter, the social media giant had this to say: “Twitter’s purpose is to serve the public conversation — it’s where you go to see what’s happening and talk about it,” the post reads. “But some of you tell us that Tweeting is uncomfortable because it feels so public, so permanent, and like there’s so much pressure to rack up Re-tweets and Likes.”
The public release comes following many successful test runs in India, Brazil, South Korea and Italy, all of which Twitter stated that the function led users to talking more and sharing opinions, casual thoughts and feelings.
