A new game development studio called “Yellow Brick Games” has just been established by the former creative director of the game “Dragon Age”.
The studio is to be found in Quebec City and has the goal of creating “original, new games of high quality”. Laidlaw is also joined by the likes of Frédéric St-Laurent B., Thomas Giroux and Jeff Skalski. That being said, Yellow Brick Games will feature veterans of Ubisoft, EA Games and BioWare which worked on heavy-hitting games such as Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs, Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
Laidlaw is set to fill the role of Chief Creative Officer, Thomas Giroux will be the Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Skalski will be Chief Operating Officer and Frédéric St-Laurent B. will fill the role of Game Director of the studio’s first project. He was previously the primary game designer for the game Assassins Creed: Syndicate over at Ubisoft Quebec.
Yellow Brick Games is currently maintaining a staff of 15, though they are projecting their numbers over the next few months and years as they pursue their goal of making a game that will “leverage the capabilities of the next generation gaming platforms”, with a “craftsmanship approach”.
Per a press release that announced the studio’s creation, Laidlaw had this to say: “The market for independently produced games is growing rapidly and the technology is keeping pace,” he said. “Small, diverse teams can now create high-quality experiences. For veterans of big-studio productions like myself and much of our team, this is the perfect time to get back to a small, agile, and highly motivated group. We want our games here at Yellow Brick to take potentially millions of players on wonderous journeys, and we want every member of our team to have a direct impact on the new worlds we’re creating.”
