The upcoming sequel to the classic Eddie Murphy comedy film Coming to America finally has its release date for Amazon Prime.
The sequel, titled Coming 2 America is led by director Craig Brewer, who worked with Murphy on Dolemite Is My Name and will have Murphy’s King Akeem and Arsenio Hall’s Semmi traveling from Zamunda to Queens in order to meet Akeem’s long lost son who is also the heir to the throne of Zamunda. The film will also mark the return of Shari Headley, James Earl Jones, Louie Anderson and John Amos to their respective roles in addition to new castmembers Trace Morgan, Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Bella Murphy, Teyana Taylor and others.
Initially scheduled to come out in theaters in August of this year, but due to the pandemic it was cancelled. In a previous statement made by Murphy he was quoted as saying: “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” He Said. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
The movie Coming 2 America is set to hit Amazon Prime Video on March 5th, 2021.
