The Mandalorian character commonly known as Baby Yoda and in the series is known as The Child has been a curious figure in newer Star Wars lore throughout season 1 and the first 4 episodes of season 2. Now, as of the release of the show’s Chapter 13 episode a much larger backstory has been provided for The Child.

Even though fans of the show have been insistent via the internet of calling The Child Baby Yoda while Disney insists on the opposite. Though now The Child has an officially confirmed name: Grogu. Though it might b a while before it catches on with fans.
Fans have also gained more knowledge as to Grogu’s origins prior to his capture by the Empire. The 50-year old Baby communicated via telepathy to Jedi Ashoka Tano, who made her first ever live action appearance in this episode explains to the Mandalorian Din Djarin that he was in training and raised in the Jedi Temple located on the planet Coruscant, having been trained by “many masters”.
Following the clone wars and the subsequent destruction of the Jedi, Grogu was take from the temple and then hidden. The events that follow are darkened in his memory. In order to survive Grogu was forced to hide his Force capabilities and has spent a long time scared and lonely. Its currently unclear as to what occurred between the fall of the Jedi and his getting found by the Mandalorian.
It was confirmed that Grogu’s species is as rare as we would expect having only known of Yoda prior to meeting Grogu.
