The upcoming Macon Blair-directed reboot of the 80’s cult classic “The Toxic Avenger” is on its way, with Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage in the title role.
According to sources, the reboot will be a “contemporary reimagining” of the 80’s cult action-comedy which first premiered in 1984. The plot is described as:
“When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.”
The hero of the story is called “Toxie”. Following the release of the first installment in 1984, the film got at least 3 sequels, the first 2 sequels (The Toxic Avenger Part II & The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation Of Toxie) coming out the same year (1989). The third sequel (The Toxic Avenger Part IV) came out a little over a decade later in 2000. The franchise was also included a live musical, a kids cartoon and its own series of comics from Marvel.
Peter Dinklage, who has continued his career following Game of Thrones, with the actor loaning his voice to The Croods: A New Age and the Angry Birds films. He’s also set to appear in the thriller “I Care Alot” as well as 2022’s “Cyrano”.
