It’s been announced as of Tuesday that actor Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page) is transgendered. Per a letter penned by Page and posted to Instagram he stated that he feels “overwhelming gratitude” for everyone that provided support during his journey.
The Umbrella Academy actor said in the letter: “I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot,” said Page “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
Further down the letter, Page stated that as much as he felt joy in writing out the letter, that joy is “fragile” based on the violence that transgendered people experience in their realities. “In 2020 alone it has been reported that at least 40 transgender people have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx trans women,” It was also pointed out by Page that several celebrities, politicians and various other public figures spew anti-trans rhetoric.

Shortly following Page’s announcement that he is trans, a representative for GLAAD gave out their praise to Elliot for his longtime devotion to LGBTQ rights. “Elliot will now be an inspiration to countless trans and non-binary people,” said the GLAAAD rep. “We celebrate him. All trans people deserve to be accepted.”
