Japanese movie studio “Studio Ghibli” is in the process of making a new animated feature with the release of “Earwig and the Witch”.
Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli will be participating in the planning of the film with his son Goro Miyazaki directing the 82-min feature. “Earwig and the Witch” is based on a novel of the same name released in 2011 by the U.K. writer Diana Wynne Jones, which centers on an orphan (Earwig) who finds herself living her life at the St. Morwald’s Home for Children. At one point characters Mandrake & Bella Yaga come into her life posing as foster parents transporting Earwig back to their magical and mysterious house that is filled with potions, invisible rooms and books. Without allowing the new location to phase her, Earwig chooses to “show the witch who’s boss”.
For thse that want to see the upcoming animated feature, Earwig and the Witch will be debuting on NHK General on Dec. 30th, following up with a North American theatrical release in early 2021.
