The original 1998 PUMA Speedcat is an archival sneaker that draws its inspiration from motorsports. Now the shoe is making a comeback in collaboration with automotive company Ferrari
Back in the 1990’s F1 drivers were supplied fireproof editions of the Speedcat by PUMA. These Speedcat sneakers were the primary footwear worn by Ferrari Scuderia’s team of drivers. Due to its sleek low profile design, the sneaker then became a fashion statement it their own right. By the start of the new millennia PUMA had developed a myriad of lifestyle shoes that were dedicated to sports that inevitably led to the partnership with Ferrari that has just recently released the SF Cell Alien and Cell Venom.
Currently the 2 collaborators are combining forces yet again for 2 new Speedcats. These new renditions will be featured in “PUMA Black/PUMA White” & “Rosso Corsa/PUMA White” and is comprised of smooth suede combined with a stitched a leather PUMA stripe on the mid-panel, providing a streamlined motorsport aesthetic.
The golden PUMA branding covers the mid-panel with the cat logo placed on the toe accompanied with the Ferrari shield located on the lateral rear-quarter. More cat themed embroidery shows itself on the heel and tongue with a low-profile outsole colored black featuring treading inspired by car tires and serves to round out both pairs.
The Ferrari X PUMA Speedcat is available from retailers such as Sivasdescalzo and you can buy the shoes for €110 EUR each which is roughly $133 USD.
