The newest collaboration between HODINKEE and its longtime friend John Mayer is finally here. Instead of an expected mechanical analog watch, the collaboration will instead be taking the form of the field-tested Casio G-SHOCK 6900.
The collaboration serves as a throwback to the 1980’s and is treated in its entirety with a colorway that was inspired by one of John Mayer’s earliest intros to the CASIO brand back when he was living in Fairfield Connecticut, that being the Casiotone SK-5 sampling keyboard.
Mayer had this to say: “When Casio approached me about the possibility of working together on a G-SHOCK, it actually timed out really well. I had already been pretty deep into wearing the ‘Mudmaster’ models, and something felt cosmically right about a G-SHOCK being the first watch collab I’ve ever done. I also love the price point. I’m not sure people would have expected a $180 watch with my name on it, but I think it’s really playful and inviting.”
The G-SHOCK 6900 is covered by hints of teal, alongside aged-yellow over laying a slate-gray resin case and strap. When looked at side-by-side with the Casiotone SK-5 keyboard, the throwback becomes all the more noticeable as the 1995 G-Shock model takes on the instrument’s appearance. The watch also features the patented water/shock-resistant tech from CASIO to make sure it lasts for a long while into the future.
For those who are looking to pick one up, the John Mayer x HODINKEE CASIO G-SHOCK 6900 is currently available on HODINKEE’s webstore selling for $180 USD.
