Earlier this week SpaceX’s Starship SN8 exploded during a high-altitude test flight.
Even though the ship successfully launched and completed its “landing flip maneuver”. At a height close to 41,000 feet the SN8 began its descent onto the landing pad prior to almost touching down and then exploded in a large ball of fire. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted out that everything was going smoothly until the landing sequence when there was low fuel header tank pressure as the landing burn progressed that led to an enormous explosion. Musk thankfully reassured his followers that all the data needed for a 100% successful launch test had been collected and that the next SN9 starship is already assembled and ready for launch.
Fuel header tank pressure was low during landing burn, causing touchdown velocity to be high & RUD, but we got all the data we needed! Congrats SpaceX team hell yeah!!
