This weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live featured a multitude of cameos, though one of the most standout cameos was featured on the XXL Rap Roundtable sketch featuring Questlove. Questlove played the role of himself, with Punkie Johnson playing Queen Latifah and Pete Davidson and Timothée Chalamet as Soundcloud rap duo Zan Mob also called Guaplord and SmokedCheddaThaAssGetta respectively who, according to the host, stated that they had broken the record for the most streams on Soundcloud.
Both Davidson and Chalamet played their parts as stereotypical Soundcloud rappers complete with face tattoos and a lack of hip-hop knowledge. As Questlove and Johnson discussed hip-hop’s “poetry, stories & truth,” Davidson and Chalamet contributed next to nothing but the movement’s “Yeet”. The rap duo said basically nothing that made sense and later dated themselves, when they mentioned that they recognized Questlove from an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba 10 years ago.
It didn’t appear as though any of them could agree on anything (much less understand one another) until Questlove said: “I think we’re all on the same page here—you’re talking about the party side of hip-hop. The dancing, the yeeting?” Though when the Soundcloud rappers were asked about their influences, they said that they were inspired by the hamsters from the Kia commercial in addition to TikTok. At the end of the sketch, Questlove gets so frustrated that he winds up slapping them both.
