Contemporary artist Daniel Arsham, who serves a primary role in the Jordan Brand x Dior collaboration, has recently unveiled his custom pair of Dior x Air Jordan 1 Highs. Arsham took to IG to show off the shoes that he himself “pushed into the future” alongside the outlook of his series titled “Future Relics”.
The sneakers were made custom by Philllllthy aka Philip Leyesa who gave them a pass of heavy erosion distressing, drawing its inspiration from Japan’s “kinsugi” philosophy. The concept bears similarities to “wabi-sabi” such as its favoring of the flawed and imperfect, giving it a layer of heavy detailing that gives the appearance of years upon years of wear.
Wear patterns aside, a grim wash was also given to the premium leather & sole units for additional color. The shoebox includes cloth bags, as well as the original note from Kim Jones, which has also been worn in a way than matches the shoe’s aesthetic.
