The upcoming sequel to 2018’s Ready Player One, titled “Ready Player Two” is now in development.
The author of the original book, in addition to the film Ready Player One, Ernest Cline, is set to adapt the sequel to the big screen. Cline stated that Ready Player Two will b picking up the storyline only 9-days following the main character Wade Watts gains victory over James Halliday’s scavenger hunt allowing him to take ownership over the WR world OASIS, which most of the world is involved in. Watts gains control of OASIS and by extension becomes the richest man in the world. Provided the film’s story goes along with the 2nd-book’s storyline, a new piece of tech invented by Halliday, will be discovered by Wade which gives him the ability to experience OASIS with all 5-senses.
Cline was quoted about the movie as saying: “I can tell from the experience of making the first movie that everybody had a lot of fun,” he said. “I really tried my best to focus on just writing a sequel to my book. There are characters in the movie that are alive that aren’t alive in the book. I focused on trying to give fans the book without letting the film influence me. The movie will sort itself out later.” No mention of a director for the upcoming sequel has been announced by Cline or if the original cast members will be reprising their roles, though it has been speculated that Spielberg will not be returning to direct the sequel.
There is not much information regarding the film as of yet, since the movie is still in its early development stages.
