Mera, the character from the Aquaman comic series portrayed in the DCEU by Amber Heard is expected to have her own spinoff series on HBO Max.
The role Heard played in the first, in addition to the sequel of the Aquaman series, is rumored to be drastically cut down due to her legal battles with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. Other rumors that have risen up, such as her alleged removal from her role as Mera in any future DC movies were ruled out when Amber Heard said that “Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality. Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”
It looks like Amber Heard is also reprising her role for the additional scenes featured in the upcoming movie Justice League: The Snyder Cut.
Earlier in the week it was tweeted out by Youtuber Grace Randolph, that the alleged spinoff of Mera will likely be taking place primarily on dry land. The spinoff series is presently in its early stages of development, though it was announced by Randolph that an official statement on the spinoff series, will be coming from HBO Max in the coming months. The alleged speed bump in the series’ development is with regards to finding a showrunner and scriptwriter. If these allegations are correct then the producer will be Peter Safran.
