Discord, the gaming focused social and chatting platform may soon be taken over by Microsoft. Currently, Microsoft is in talks to purchase Discord for over $10 Billion USD. However, the deal is on its early stages and Discord may choose to go public instead of selling it to Microsoft.
The acquisition of Discord by Microsoft may reshape it’s gaming business more towards software and services. What Microsoft is trying to do here is to bundle gaming experience and social interaction under one umbrella. Users can also expect Discord’s premium offering, Nitro, bundled into the Microsoft’s Game Pass Service.
Neither Microsoft nor Discord has confirmed on this merger and we are waiting for an official confirmation from both of these companies. Discord might look the other way and even go public. Discord has also been in talks with Amazon and Epic Games for a merger in the past.
Discord roughly have over 100 million monthly users and since the pandemic, this number has reached new heights. People staying at home preferred Discord for virtual gatherings, study groups, dance classes and obviously social game chatting.
